About Us : Philanthropy

The sisters of Sigma Phi Omega are strongly committed to serving the community. Our official National Philanthropy is domestic violence. Every semester, our chapter holds seminars and discussions to promote domestic violence awareness and prevention on the UC Berkeley campus. Our members can be seen on Sproul Plaza, passing out informational brochures and flyers for our events. We also actively fundraise, making yearly donations to the San Francisco Asian Women's Shelter, where our chapter has been awarded membership in their Supporting Circle.

While our mission is to bring domestic violence awareness and prevention to Berkeley, the scope of our philanthropy is not limited to this one cause. Other events and organizations that our chapter participates in include:

American Cancer Society's Relay for Life
Family Giving Tree
City Wide Ministries
Alameda County MADD
San Francisco Asian Women's Shelter
UC Berkeley Eggster
AIDS Walk
Clean Cities Program
Habitat for Humanity
Canning for Hunger
Domestic Violence Project
Girls Inc.

Many of our members are also individually involved in helping the community by performing at charitable events, tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged students, and volunteering at hospitals.

Sigmas are proud to serve the communities in which we live. Service is one of the main aspects of our sisterhood, and we are always glad to contribute and make a difference.
